I know that I have joked about this on my facebook status before but it has really been weighing on my mind lately. What started as a joke has actually become a serious question in my mind. I thought I would write this and get everyone else's opinions on the subject. The question I pose in this is, in my opinion, a valid one and sometimes it takes a group of people yo point out a flaw or flaws or the valid qualities of an idea.

Why isn't Pro-wrestling an Olympic Event??

I know that Pro-wrestling is a staged event and the outcomes are predetermined but that in no way should take away from the fact that it takes athleticism, agility, speed, endurance and any other qualities that the olympics is "SUPPOSED" to represent. You look at gymnastics, specifically the floor routines. They have certain moces that they must land and the rest is basically an improvisation. You look at figure skating, same deal. They are basically choreographed routines that are used to display their form and their ability to execute the moves properly. I used to do them when I was in Martial arts. They were called KATAS. Or FORMS. Some were set to music, some were not, some you could implement props and costumes, some you could not. You were graded on the crispness of the move, the postire and the way in which you linked the manouvres together to simulate the fact you were defending and attacking multiple enemies. Sound Familliar?? With a sport like MMA rumored to be attemptine to become an olympic event, and "SPORTS" like Ballroom dancing already a demonstration sport, why the bias towards Pro-wrestling??

Here is problem number one. A lot of these wrestling promotions have a joke of a "WELLNESS POLICY". If they were in the olympics, how many big stars do you think would pass the IOC screening??. This would have the big companies having to use their B or C squads, so to speak. The upsiide to this is that a lot of the indy wrestling companies would get to send some of thier stars. Team USA could be stars like Brian Danielson, Samoa Joe,  and the like instead of Shawn Micheals and Triple H. I think that would be a better choice as it is.

The second problem would be, not all countries have Pro-wrestlers that wrestle the same way. Japan has a much different style then Peurto Rico, who has a different style than the US and so on. Tis problem could be rectified by having teams from countries face off with their own country. Japan VS Japan. Canada Vs Canada and so on. It would be comparable to Pairs Figure Skating or *SHUDDER* Ballroom Dancing. Making a common area for grading wouldn't be that difficult either, a suplex is pretty much a suplex everywhere. I for one would like to see how people from differewnt countries measure up against one another in a non partisan event.

I really do not see why they have not even consider it. Pro-Wrestling, like it or not, has a huge fanbase world-wide and as most people know, the ratings for the Olympics are lower then a Nancy O'Dell hosted episode of Raw. This would bring mainstream coverage to wrestling, in a postive light for a change, as well as boost the sagging ratings for the Olympics. I don't see why it couldn't be done. I think  Japan deserves a sport that they have a chance of medalling in, well, besides ping pong.

What do you think??
